Facelift

What is a Facelift?

Over the years, the combined effects of sun exposure, gravity, heredity and the natural aging process begin to appear on the face. The skin begins to wrinkle, sag and lose elasticity in the jowls and around the neck. A facelift tightens the muscles and skin of the face and neck, providing enhancement to the lower one-half of the face. This procedure is performed on those who desire a younger facial appearance and more contoured neckline.

The Procedure

The two main goals of a facelift are tightening the jaw line for a better defined neck and addressing the lower one-half of the face. Incisions for a facelift are hidden behind your ears and back in the hairline. After the incisions are made, the loose muscles of the lower face and neck are tightened, the skin is pulled up and back and the excess skin is removed. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, in our surgical suite, using light sedation or “twilight sleep”. At your consultation, your specific areas of concern will be discussed and examined. After gaining an understanding of your desired results, we will present the various treatment options available as well as the outcomes these options are likely to produce. Facelifts can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your improvement.

How Long will the Results Last?

Although having a facelift procedure does help restore a more youthful appearance, is does not stop the aging process. A facelift “turns back the clock” it does not stop the clock. Specific outcomes and/or the lasting results can not be guaranteed because every patient is different and numerous variables, such as age, genetics and lifestyle, play a large role. Generally speaking, facelift procedures provide patients with a refreshed appearance and are a great long term investment.

Forehead Browlift

What is a Browlift?

One of the first noticeable signs of aging is a droopy brow. In addition, wrinkles and furrows develop on the forehead and in combination with the droopy brow create an “unhappy” or “tired” appearance. A brow or forehead lift can raise the eyebrows back to a more youthful position and help smooth out wrinkles and furrows to produce a more refreshed and happier appearance.

The Procedure

The incision for a browlift will be hidden just inside the hairline, using a special technique to camouflage the scar. The muscles that cause the wrinkling and furrowing are weakened and if necessary the brows are elevated. Any excess skin will be removed and the incision line closed in a manner that allows for optimal healing. Forehead or brow lifts can be performed alone in or conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your improvement.

Eyelid Surgery

What is Eyelid Surgery?

The eyes are a very prominent facial feature, sometimes referred to as “the windows to the soul”. Unfortunately, the aging process can cause unwanted changes to the skin, tissue and muscles surrounding the eye making you look fatigued or older than you feel. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can restore a refreshed and more youthful appearance by correcting sagging eyelids, reducing excess skin on the upper eyelids and improving the bags and puffiness that occur beneath the eyes.

The Procedure

If you are having excess skin removed from your upper eyelids, a fine incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid. The excess skin and muscle is removed and the incision closed with very fine sutures, to promote optimal healing. To remove the excess fatty deposits involving the lower eyelids, an incision is made on the inside of the lower lid and then the excess fat is removed. In addition, if you have excess skin, it will be removed using an incision made in the natural crease of the lower eyelid just below the lash line. Eyelid surgery can be performed alone in or conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your improvement.

Cosmetic Nasal Surgery

What is Cosmetic Nasal Surgery?

The nose is one of your most defining features. For those who are dissatisfied with the size and/or shape of their nose, cosmetic nasal surgery can be performed to improve the appearance of the nose and to also correct breathing issues. Nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty, corrects deformities of the nose, which may be naturally occurring or due to an injury, by removing, rearranging and reshaping the nasal structures.

The Procedure

Most incisions will be made on the inside of the nose. The skin of the nose is separated from the underlying bone and cartilage, which are reshaped to produce the desired appearance and then the skin is re-draped over the newly shaped structures. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure in our surgical suite, using light sedation or “twilight sleep”. At your consultation, your specific condition will be discussed and examined. After gaining an understanding of your desired results, we will present the various treatment options available as well as the outcomes these options are likely to produce. Digital imaging can be used to demonstrate the possible changes this procedure can provide. Cosmetic nasal surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your results.

What is an Otoplasty?

Overdeveloped or protruding ears can be the cause of psychological stress and trauma. Children are most likely to suffer the consequences of protruding ears in the form of ridicule by their peers. “Pinning back” the ears or otoplasty is the procedure performed to correct this condition. The Procedure

There a several options for performing this procedure, which can include folding the cartilage located at the back of the ear or removing excess cartilage. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, in our surgical suite, using light sedation or “twilight sleep”. At your consultation, your concerns will be discussed and examined. Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?

As we age our skin’s natural rejuvenation process also ages. The normal aging process in combination with repeated exposure to environmental stresses, such as sun exposure, can cause the skin to be damaged. Damaged skin may become uneven, blotchy and wrinkled. A chemical peel uses a solution that, when applied to the face, removes the damaged outer layer of the skin leaving a smoother, regenerated appearance.

The Procedure

The proper type of chemical, or combination of chemicals, which are chosen for your specific needs, will be applied to the selected treatment areas. This solution causes the skin to exfoliate the damaged outer layer which then encourages the production of new skin cells. Chemical peels can be performed alone in or conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your improvement.

Chin and Cheek Implants

What are Facial Implants?

When looking in the mirror we tend to focus on our imperfections. Many people feel their facial structures are out of balance or not proportioned correctly. Reshaping and strengthening the chin and cheeks, using specially designed implants, can help achieve the desired proportion and definition. Implants are designed to be a permanent solution for correcting deficiencies and asymmetries of the face, helping to create or restore confidence in your appearance.

The Procedure

Facial implants are made from non-toxic materials and come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. The proper implant, chosen specifically for you, will be inserted through incisions made inside the mouth. Once in position, the implants will be permanently secured and the incisions closed with suture. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, in our surgical suite, using light sedation or “twilight sleep”. At your consultation, your concerns will be discussed and examined. After gaining an understanding of your desired results, we will present the various treatment options available as well as the outcomes these options are likely to produce. Digital imaging can be used to demonstrate the possible changes this procedure can provide. Facial implant surgery can be performed alone in or conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your improvement.

Facial Liposuction

What is Facial Liposuction?

Many people are unhappy with the fatty deposits located in the chin, neck and jawline. These areas do not usually respond to diet and exercise. Facial liposuction is a procedure that removes the excess fat from these areas. This very common and popular procedure can provide a dramatic change in the way you look.

The Procedure

A small incision is placed in an inconspicuous location below the chin. Using a special tube, called a canula, the unwanted areas of fat are removed through the incision. The result is the re-sculpting of bulging areas on the face and neck into a more desirable facial contour. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure in our surgical suite, using light sedation or “twilight sleep”. At your consultation your specific condition will be discussed along with your expectations, the probable outcome and various treatment options available. Digital imaging can be used to demonstrate the changes this procedure can provide. Facial liposuction can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your results.

Fat Transfer and Dermal Fillers

How are Dermal Fillers and Fat Transfer Used?

As you age, your face changes. As a result of these changes, your face can lose volume which produces wrinkles and folds. This can be especially noticeable around the nose and mouth. One of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today is the placement of dermal fillers or the transference of fat to smooth out wrinkles and folds and to enhance lips.

What is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer can be utilized to rejuvenate the face and restore a younger, more rounded appearance. Your own fat can be harvested, by liposuction, from the abdomen, thigh or buttock area. The fat is then prepared and re-injected into the face to help correct various cosmetic problems.

  • Provides long-lasting results
  • Fills in facial defects and scars
  • Corrects facial folds, laugh lines and wrinkles

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers provide a minimally invasive facial rejuvenation for those who are not ready for surgery. The fillers are injectable gels that are inserted under the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as smile lines and tear trough lines below the eyes. These fillers are also great for lip enhancement. The placement of dermal fillers is simple, safe and effective.

The dermal fillers used at Carolina Surgical Arts are Juvederm and Radiesse.

Juvederm

  • Lasts 6-12 months
  • Injected with minimal lumping or bruising
  • Excellent for lip enhancement and smoothing of the nasolabial folds
  • FDA approved

Radiesse

  • Lasts 1-2 years
  • Excellent for adding volume to the deeper grooves of the face
  • Works with your body to stimulate new collagen
  • FDA approved

These procedures are typically performed using light sedation or “twilight sleep”, for your comfort. At your consultation your specific condition will be discussed along with your expectations, the probable outcome and various treatment options available. Fat transfer or the placement of dermal fillers can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Before and after photos will be taken to document your results.

Botox® Cosmetic

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic is a revolutionary approach to reversing the effects of facial wrinkles. Overactive muscles in the face can cause wrinkles between your brows and around your eyes, known as frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox is a purified protein, administered in a simple nonsurgical procedure, which temporarily stops the contraction of those overactive muscles, improving the appearance of facial wrinkles.

The Procedure

Once the desired areas are identified for treatment, Botox Cosmetic is injected into the muscle using a small needle. Discomfort is minimal and brief, usually compared to the sensation of a bug bite. The entire procedure takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and you can resume normal activity immediately. You can expect to see results within days after your treatment. Botox is temporary with visible results lasting between 3 to 6 months. After that, you may be ready to return for a follow-up treatment. Botox can be injected alone in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures.
